HARASSMENT / #METOO
Depending on the context, harassment covers behavior that is, for example, intimidating, degrading, or sexually abusive. In the modeling business, this can include unwanted touching, sexualized remarks, or pressure to engage in sexual acts. Sexual harassment can also take the form of words or gestures.
#MeToo is a movement against sexual violence and the abuse of power. It goes back to the initiative founded by Tarana Burke in 2006 and gained worldwide attention in 2017 through the hashtag of the same name. Its focus is on supporting those affected and bringing abuses to light – including in the fashion, film, and media industries.
As a model, you can say no at any time, including on set and to well-known photographers or clients. If something feels wrong, stop the situation, tell your agency immediately and write down what happened. As an influencer, harassment can happen at events, on brand trips or in direct messages, so document incidents with screenshots, report accounts and talk to your management or someone you trust. No one has the right to cross your boundaries, and getting help is always the right call.
