HOW DO THE TERMS REACH COMPENSATION AND BUYOUTS DIFFER FROM EACH OTHER?!
The main difference between reach compensation and buyout is how and for what a model is paid. With range compensation, the fee depends entirely or in part on how well a content performs. This means that a model, for example, for a video on Instagram or TikTok, initially receives a small or no fixed fee and is paid additionally for views, likes or interactions. The higher the range, the higher the compensation. This model offers the chance for more income with successful content, but it is also uncertain, as factors such as algorithm, publication time or advertising budget cannot be fully influenced by the model.
In contrast, the use of the resulting images or videos is clearly regulated in advance and paid for in a lump sum. The model receives a fixed sum in addition to the shooting fee for the right to use the material for a certain period, in defined media and often also in certain regions. Regardless of how often or successfully the content is played, the payment remains the same. The buyout model provides significantly more planning security for the model, while the customer bears the risk of whether the campaign pays off. In practice, buyout is the more common and professional variant in the classic model business, while reach compensation is more common in the influencer and social media area or is used as a supplementary bonus.
