HAIR STYLIST
A hair stylist is responsible for professionally styling hair. In the modeling business, they develop and create suitable hairstyles for photo shoots, fashion shows, commercial productions, or events. They follow the creative concept and coordinate the look with the makeup, the clothing, and the vision of the production team.
The tasks include, for example, blow-drying, straightening, curling, braiding, or pinning up hair, as well as working with extensions and wigs. During the production, the hair stylist checks that the hairstyle stays in place, fixes individual strands, and makes sure the desired look stays consistent across different shots.
Unlike a regular salon appointment, the focus on set is usually on temporary styling for a specific look. Cutting, coloring, or other permanent changes are not automatically part of the job and must be explicitly agreed upon in advance with the model and, if applicable, their agency.
As a model, your hair is part of the look you were booked for and part of your comp card, so never agree to a spontaneous cut or color on set. When in doubt, call your agency, because an unplanned change can jeopardize other jobs that are already confirmed. As an influencer, you often work with hair stylists on brand shoots and at events, or book them yourself. So clarify in advance which look fits the campaign, who covers the fee and whether the stylist should be credited in your post. Also let the stylist know in good time if you have a sensitive scalp, extensions or recently treated hair, so nothing gets damaged.
