A shadowban means that a platform like Instagram or TikTok severely limits an account’s reach – without notifying the user. Your posts are still online but barely appear on the Explore page, under hashtags or to non-followers.

Typical triggers are violations of community guidelines, such as overly revealing content, bought followers or likes, spam-like behavior or banned hashtags. This can happen quickly with swimwear, lingerie or nude shoots in particular.

A shadowban usually shows up as a sudden, sharp drop in reach. Instagram now shows under “Account Status” whether your content is being restricted. It helps to remove problematic posts, take a few days’ break and use clean hashtags. For brands, a shadowban is a warning sign – so keep your account clean.
