KIDS MODEL
Kids models are children who appear on camera for fashion, advertising, and other commercial productions. Typical jobs include photo shoots for children’s fashion, online stores, and catalogs, as well as commercials and campaigns for toys, leisure activities, or family products.
Naturalness, charisma, and enjoyment of taking part are what count. Depending on the job, different age groups, sizes, and looks are wanted. A child doesn’t need to master perfect poses: a curious look, a spontaneous laugh, or a lively personality can fit the concept perfectly. In fashion productions, the right clothing size often plays a role.
Kids are booked through specialized children’s agencies or the kids divisions of modeling agencies, among others. Current, natural photos and details on age, height, and clothing size are suitable for an application. Since children grow and change quickly, this information should be updated regularly.
Child modeling needs child-appropriate organization. Parents or other legal guardians handle coordination with the agency and the production. Short, age-appropriate assignments, enough breaks, and a familiar companion create good conditions. The child should genuinely want to take part in the shoot; their well-being and limits come first.
In Germany, special rules under the Youth Employment Protection Act (Jugendarbeitsschutzgesetz) apply. Employing children in this way generally requires official approval – the consent of the legal guardians alone is not enough. Supervision, working hours, breaks, and compatibility with school are among the factors taken into account.
For parents, it's important to know that children's jobs don't just require your consent but also have to comply with official requirements. A reputable agency takes care of this, informs you transparently about fees and image usage and never charges you for signing. On set, make sure your child gets breaks and can stop at any time if they no longer want to continue.
