HOOK
In influencer marketing, a hook refers to the critical opening moment of a piece of content that determines whether someone keeps watching or immediately scrolls past. On platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, the hook is especially important because users often decide within a split second whether to stay.
A hook can be a compelling line, a surprising statement, a strong emotional trigger, or a visually engaging scene. Common examples include questions (“Did you know this?”), bold claims (“Almost everyone gets this wrong”) or intriguing teasers (“Wait until the end”). The goal is to spark instant curiosity and capture the viewer’s attention.
For influencers, the hook is a key factor in increasing watch time and reach. A strong opening encourages viewers to watch longer, which is positively rewarded by the algorithm. At the same time, the hook should remain authentic and aligned with the content, as exaggerated or misleading openings can quickly damage audience trust.
