FOMO EFFECT
The FOMO effect (Fear of Missing Out) refers to the fear of missing out on an exciting opportunity, experience, or benefit that others are currently enjoying. In marketing, this psychological trigger is used to create interest and increase demand.
By creating a sense of scarcity or exclusivity, people are encouraged to act quickly so they don’t miss out. Common examples include limited-time offers, low stock availability, or exclusive events and products available only to a select group.
Social media further amplifies FOMO: When people see others – especially influencers – sharing positive experiences with a product or event, it increases their own desire to be part of it.
When used effectively, the FOMO effect can accelerate decision-making and boost conversions by creating urgency and perceived value.
