WHAT ARE POLAS AND WHY DO I NEED THEM AS A MODEL?!
Polas are current, unretouched photos that show you as naturally as possible. The term comes from the Polaroid pictures that were used in the past. Today these shots are usually taken digitally, which is why they’re also called “digitals.”
Agencies and clients need them to get a realistic picture of your current look, your proportions, and your presence. Your model book shows your versatility – your polas make your natural look visible. That’s why they matter for applications as well as for castings and specific job requests.
They typically include portraits, profile shots, and full-length shots. Make sure you have good, even daylight, a plain background, and simple, close-fitting clothing. Wear no makeup or only very subtle makeup, and skip beauty filters, retouching, and elaborate styling. A professional shoot usually isn’t necessary for this; a good smartphone camera is generally enough. Always follow the specific requirements of the agency in question.
Keep your polas up to date, especially when your look changes – for example, with a new hair color or a different haircut. That way, agencies and clients know what look to expect when they book you.
